I think we wrestled with this back in May'96 and found that there was a
character limit to the environment variable string. I presume it got fixed
in a later release ...  Jeff ?????

Of course you are correct. Cole wrote that limit into
the env stuff. This would not be my choice. I forgot
about  his limit. I dont know why he did this.
