As another user of drvIpac, I'd like to add a few comments -
If we had a large number of IP based I/O, the mv162 based HiDEOS would
have been very attractive since some of our subsystems are already
compute intensive (astrometrics, pointing models, and related tasks)
and we could have reduced the load on our IOCs.
C++ is _not_ an issue for us since our OPI applications
environment is based on CDEV. The driver and device support we have for the
IP-Octal serial I/O modules (with the exception of drvIpac itself) are
also in C++.
and what about CDI? Lack of familarity, I suppose, was the main factor
(a reflection more on ourselves than DESY) - and we still would have
needed to add the IP-Octal support.
