Subject: steppermotor record

I have two problems with the steppermotor record / OMS driver.

First: It provides no direct control over the AUX line. It always
enables the line before initiating a move, and disables it after the
move is complete. This is desirable behavior under normal operating
conditions; however, it causes problems for me during my initial
calibration procedure. I need to be able to leave the AUX line enabled
for an extended sequence of calibration operations, and return it to
its normal operating mode after calibration is complete.

Second: As far as I can tell, it provides no way to set the velocity
profile (other than the acceleration). Specifically, I would like to
be able to set the OMS base velocity.

I believe that I will need to modify the record and driver to provide
this support. Is this correct, or am I overlooking something? Has
someone else already done one or both of these? If I do make the
changes, who do I contact to get the changes merged with the standard
release?

As an alternative, I have been given a 'motor' record, written by Jim
Kowalkowski and Joe Sullivan. It provides the second function that I
need. I would still need to add the first function. Has anyone had
experience with this record? Are there any special problems with it?
Is there a reason why this record is not part of the standard EPICS
release (I'm using release 3.12.2, with Gemini modifications)?

Any information would be appreciated.
