Hi folks

In an attempt to satisfy the EPICS purists I have composed a small database
using records only, and minimising the use of subroutine record code.  I have
an mbbo record which should be initialised with the names of 16 sensors and
which is to be used as a lookup table.  My first attempt to initialise this
record, using pvload, fails because of timeouts arising from the fact that the
index channels are not connected, i.e. ZRST, ZRVL, ONST, ONVL, etc.  A probe
confirms this, but fields like VAL can be accessed.  The question is, what
does one have to do to ensure that the mbbo index values and strings are
connected when the database is loaded?  I have tried delaying the
initialisation stage until well after the database is loaded, including
running pvload from the VxWorks command line, and even tried putting junk
values into the said fields before the database is built.  Nothing works, so
I may be forced to go back to a clumsy solution using a mosub (subroutine
records have no string output and EGU is too short).

Has anybody any idea how mbbo records are supposed to be used?  It seemed like
a neat solution at first, ... but two days later?
