I have completed a rather disturbing phone conversation with Phase Three,
where they quoted me a new price for CapFast for Sun workstation of $2995,
up from $1797.
During my conversation:
I was told that the price increase was because Phase Three was offering a
Motif version and the old price was for the non-Motif version. I replied
that I've bought three Motif versions in the last year for the old price.
I was told that the price increase was for new functionality for the
Epics community, from a message received from Nick Rees and Johnny
Tang. I replied that the message was only a few weeks old, and had
Phase Three already implemented this long list? I guess we are
expected to pay now for future enhancements.
I was told that the price increase was for the floating license version.
I replied that I wanted the node-locked version. It seems Phase Three
have eliminated the node-locked version and list only the higher priced one.
Three months ago I purchased a floating license version, paid the $3K, and
still haven't received the license manager. They keep issuing me time-lock
passwords (but only when I call and complain).
The upshot of all this conversation was that Phase Three *would* sell
me only one more copy of the node-locked version of CapFast. I have
received the quote just now, which make no reference to the "only one
more copy" verbal comment. But I *am* getting it for $1797. Maybe they've
put the node-lock version back in their price lists?
Would someone please remind me again why we use CapFast rather than
pcad, orcad, or the like?
