Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
The current proposal from Xiao Song is ment to be a minor change to the IOC
logger.
First priority is to keep the functionality of the existing logger and to
extend the functionality by means of a configuration file.
The idea is to either add the filename during startup of the logger or to
define the config.-file by means of a system variable. If both way do not
apply the IOClogger will behave as before.
Mail messages: It is intended to send a ONE mail to the system manager if
the log file is full and stop logging until you actively do something.
If you have a message-log storm you might still fill your disk with
nonsense if you did not implement something on the frontend (see Chip's
approach)
Chip's approach might lead to a real solution and we will probably wait
with further developments (i.e. message browser) until we've seen those
results. But - splitting the files according to the IOC and versioning the
files by months is a mendatory implementation for the next HERA run.
