  You could take at look at the arrIDL extension, available from

ftp://ftp.keck.hawaii.edu/pub/wlupton/arrIDL_0p1.tar.gz

  This uses essentially the code from ARR (actually from ARR via arrtk)
to import EPICS archiver files into IDL.
