                           SOFTWARE ENGINEERS
                    UNITED KINGDOM INFRARED TELESCOPE

The Joint Astronomy Centre, located in Hilo, Hawaii, has vacancies for two
Software Engineers (3 year appointments with possibility of extension). The
successful candidates will be responsible for the support and development of
telescope and instrumentation software for UKIRT.

Minimum Qualifications:
-  Bachelors degree in Controls Engineering, Computer Science, Physics,
   Astronomy, or any relevant physical science.
-  3 years of experience in scientific computing, including the 
   development and use of real time control software, (or equivalent
   additional education).
-  Working knowledge of C and/or FORTRAN programming languages, UNIX
   and/or VMS operating systems and software control of hardware
   systems. 
-  A valid current driving license; ability to drive 4-wheel drive
   vehicles with manual transmission.
-  Good communication and problem solving skills. Ablity to work as part
   of a team. Ability to work at 14,000 feet and pass a high altitude
   physical examination.
  
Desirable qualifications include further education in Astronomy or Controls
Engineering, knowledge and experience of developing software for: astronomical
instrument control, astronomical data reduction, VxWorks, Starlink, EPICS,
ADAM and DRAMA.
