Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System
Hi all,
this the first and real announcement for the first European EPICS
collaboration meeting!
The meeting will be held from the 25th to the 27th in September.
It will be hosted by CERN.
Fabien Perriollat has promised that:
"Normaly it is a pleasant time to come at Geneva !"
I'll take his words!
Since this will be the first meeting of this kind in Europe it will have
to cover not only the topics for those already familiar with EPICS but will
also give some introduction to those who intend to join.
Therefore we will have one day of training on Wednesday the 25th for
newcomers and developers.
Thanks to our american colleagues - namely: Bob Dalesio, Marty Kraimer and
Chip Watson - which all confirmed to come, we will have a lot of support
from the origins of EPICS to make this meeting a success.
Activities around the meeting:
------------------------------
There is still some discussion going on whether a forum for a software
sharing meeting on the days before the EPICS meeting should be opened.
Please send your comments to Chip Watson <[email protected]> and/or
Frank di Maio <[email protected]>.
Tentative Agenda:
-----------------
- Welcome to newcomers
- what's EPICS
- the collaboration
- Distribution of software, docs and web-pages.
- Local support for new labs installing EPICS.
- Fieldbuses: CAN(CAL)/FIP/Profibus ( Matthias)
- Special requirements for installations in:
- HEP-experiments (Fabien /Helfried ?)
- The astronomical world (Peregrine ?)
- Light Sources ( Roland Mueller ?)
- Interfaces between new EPICS-based control system with non-EPICS
based "legacy" control and data acquisition systems.
- cdev ( Chip Watson ?)
- portable CA server ( Marty Kraimer ?)
- gateways ( Matthias Clausen)
- High-level facility operations sequencing including the
interactions of detector/data acquisition systems with machine controls.
(Peregrine)
- Non 68k based IOCs
- who uses what and do we find someone to talk about different CPU's?
- Sparc 5 (Peregrine)
- Current developments:
- PC-based IOC's ( Bob Dalesio ?)
- PC-based workstations
- Online 'add and delete'
- Graphic applications
- whats there / what's next
- support on top of cdev
Please let me know whether you have additional topics you would like to
see on the agenda.
The form of the meeting will be informal with speakers to the topics and
discussions. We will set up the time schedule for the meeting as soon as we
know more precisely what you all want to hear about and discuss.
For the agenda you can contact:
Jean-Francois Gournay <[email protected]>
Matthias Clausen <[email protected]>
Fabien Perriollat <[email protected]>
Reservation:
------------
Except for the accommodation no registration nor -fee is required.
None the less it will be necessary ahead of time to know how many people
will show up to arrange the meeting rooms at CERN.
Accommodation:
-------------
You can send a mail to:
<[email protected]>
(I hope this still works since CERN changed the mailing addresses.)
I hope you can make your plans accordingly and see you at CERN!
