The most recent version of Tcl/Tk is 7.5/4.1, released in late April
1996.  However, BLT development seems to be lagging a bit behind, in a
confused state.  (BLT 1.9.0 is reported to work only with the beta
version of 7.5/4.1 Tcl/Tk.  I can't get it to compile with final
release version 7.5/4.1.  Don't be confused by BLT 2.1 which only works
with tcl/tk 7.3/3.6.  BLT 2.1 is the work of others attempting to
upgrade, but hasn't not kept up with the current major re-write of Tk.)
Fall back and regroup.

Better to try the combinations (released in 1995):
  package	version	site
   tcl 		7.4	ftp.sunlabs.com/pub/tcl
   tk 		4.1	ftp.sunlabs.com/pub/tcl
   tcl-dp	3.4	ftp.cs.cornell.edu/Info/Projects/zeno/Software
   BLT 		1.8	ftp.cs.uoregon.edu/pub/jhobbs

The first three compile and install with the standard sequence
 		./configure; make; make install
The only modifications I had to do to get BLT going were to fix
some paths in the Makefile after the ./configure step.
(I choose to install BLT in /usr/local/lib/blt-1.8 instead of
the default /usr/local/blt)
Also, copy the BLT src tree into /usr/local/lib/blt-1.8/src
since tclCa will need at it.

Up till now, you haven't needed to pay attention to any 
EPICS-related stuff.

Then, to compile the tclCa, modify Makefile.Unix to identify the
paths to where you've got tcl/tk/dp/blt and modify both
Makefile & Makefile.Unix to target your EPICS installation properly.

Doggone it now, this should work.
