For what it's worth, in the big Allen-Bradley catalog there is mentioned
an SLC 500 Basic module (1746-BAS) which is supposed to support "a subset
of the Intel 52 BASIC language". Whether or not Basic is better than
ladder logic is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. If you find
something better, I'd be interested in hearing about it, since we don't
have much invested in ladder logic yet.
