CEBAF has Netscape2.0, but has not encouraged its general use until
all security problems are solved.
Mosaic is heavily used. Are frames part of the HTML standard, or
a Netscape extension? I generally don't like the idea of using custom
extensions, because several browsers are in use at CEBAF and at our
collaborating institutions. If frames are part of HTML 3.0, then
no problem (as long as the non-frame version remains, no problem
in any case).
One thing I don't like about frames is that they defeat the
"Location:" indicator -- you don't know where the frame's contents
are coming from.
I personally do not want to put all documentation at APS. It is much
more difficult for us to maintain. I think the point of the web is
distributed maintenance. However, documentation of the core stuff
(mostly written at APS) should be at APS. Distributed items:
various overviews of EPICS
device support docs
custom record docs
EPICS applications
cdev applications (==EPICS applications)
alternate development environment(s) :)
The challenge is to have a cohesive index of all of that.
