Subject: Porting EPICS onto new boards

Hi All, (sorry for flooding the exploder ... I'll shut up after this one...)

we are considering the use of a new VME CPU board that's been introduced
recently (to clearify our motivation: it's an 68060/50MHz/8MB below $2,600
by an US/German manufacturer). VxWorks Board Support is announced for
"within the next weeks".

My question is: What are the known difficulties, where are the traps, what
is going to break your neck when porting EPICS to another CPU board.

My idea is to put up some kind of a check list, which can be used when
porting things to another board as well as when optimizing software for
maximum portability.

Since I think this might be interesting for a larger audience, I would
suggest sending emails to me and I promise to put up the list, post it to
the exploder and put it into the web.

Is this a good idea?

Ralph
