It is true that some of the integral components of EPICS
are evolving in the direction of C++. We are well aware that while there 
can be endless discussions about the relative merits of one programming
language vs another, for many EPICS users the primary issue is
portability of the source code. Lacking an ANSI standard, C++ is not
without problems in this area. 

In the case of the new ca server we can only say at this time that we 
are aware of these issues and will endeavor to eliminate them as a 
significant cause of portability problems. Since g++ will be bundled with
the tornado release of vxWorks the new server will at least be compilable
with g++ for that environment. We are still investigating the other
platform/compiler combinations at this time.
