Subject: Wind River - vxWorks/Tornado

I have started a discussion with Wind River regarding the upgrade to
Tornado. There are several aspects to this upgrade that need serious
consideration - what do we get? what do we pay?

To make the most sensible decision and get the most reasonable pricing -
we will best serve our collaboration by coordinating our efforts in this
transition. To facilitate this negotiation I need each site to report -
1) What type of WRS license do you have? (and # developer's seats)
2) What BSPs are you using?
3) Do you only use vxWorks for EPICS?
4) What specific project(s) are you using EPICS for (have these from some already)
5) What other project(s) do you use vxWorks - but not EPICS

We have several options -
modify EPICS so that small sites do not need developer's licenses
acquire pricing that if favorable enough to forego these changes
port to another operating system and make it unneccessary to use vxWorks
stay with 5.2 - and handle the limited life - limited platform problems.

This issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible. Please respond to this
inquiry within the next several days. I do not want to make a career out of
this - but believe it is worthwhile to spend several days of my time to get
this handled. Please help me to minimize this time with your cooperation.

	Thanks for the help,
	Bob
