Hello all,
I have been given the wonderful task of making some modifications to
BURT. One of the things I would like to do while poking around in
there is remove its use of the C compiler and the C preprocessor.
To accomplish this, I plan on using the text substitution methods
similar to those that are found in dbLoadTemplate and perhaps the medm
stuff. This COULD change the syntax or semantics of the burt request
files (WRT the symbolic substitution only), so if it does, I would not
mind some coments from those folks that might have strong feelings
about it. I am totaly open at this time... let it rip.
Additionally, there is the issue of the dependancy files in BURT. So
far I have found ZERO users of this feature and it is a pretty
complicated thing to support without the availability of something like
the C compiler. Thus I move to eliminate the feature from BURT
completely. Anyone care otherwise? If so, perhaps it could be
simply left as it is since it causes the compiler to be invoked only if
it is actually used anyway, so it could be left as a sleeper to those
that don't want it.
