re: adding fields IVAL and FINI
I'm reluctant to add new fields for every new feature desired. (In fact,
I would like to remove a lot of fields!) For the few times where this
is necessary, can't it can be accomplished by using the SIM fields and
PINI to first fetch a "simulation" value, then have that flip it out of
simulation mode so that the next execution fetches the DOL value?
It can also be solved by using a couple of soft records pushing into the
real record -- one for the initial value, the other for the later values.
Another possibility is to re-use PINI to be an enum to control initial
behavior, and allow the database designer to pre-load VAL (instead of
requiring IVAL). Then the record does not have to get larger. PINI
is 8 bits, and could hold both necessary flags.
