Dear All,

Two weeks ago I sent out a note about the development by William Lupton
of Keck, and myself, of the UAE (Universal Application Environment)
extension. I promised to make it available via anonymous ftp `in a
little while'.

It has now had a number of minor changes and is available via anonymous
ftp from:

Machine:    pau.jach.hawaii.edu
Directory:  pub/epics
File:       uae.tar.gz

Installation instructions are:

Install the tarfile into extensions/src - it unpacks into a uae
subdirectory.  Epics should be > R3.12.0Beta12. There is a make script
in the top level directory which has the following rules:

1. install - creates a .cvsignore file in the templates/db directory,
             copies applSetup to INSTALL_BIN and prints a message about
             the install.config rule (see below).

2. clean   - deletes templates/db/.cvsignore

3. install.config - patches the following files:

     $(EPICS)/config/RULES_ARCHS - creates a .applTop link in the dirs rule.

     $(EPICS)/config/RULES.Vx and .Unix - adds an INSTALL_OTHERS to
          the install rule.

     $(EPICS)/base/src/db/iocInit.c - modifies dbLoad so that it looks for
          the sdrSum file in the same place as it found the dctsdr file, not
          the current directory. (This requires the db and iocCore directories
          of base to be rebuilt).

     ... and also copies various new files into $(EPICS)/config

The install.config rule MUST be executed for it all to work, but it is
a bit intrusive so I didn't make it part of the install rule.

Unfortunately, the only documentation is the header of the applSetup
file. William is Frame-aware and so has promised to do some more formal
documentaion.

Thanks to Matt Needes of LANL and Thomas Birke of BESSY who spotted a
couple of our deliberate mistakes ;-).
