Here is the current status to the best of my knowledge.
I also encourage Mike from Allen Bradley to add or comment on what I say.
I currently have one of the 6008-SV2R prototypes in the test stand in my office.
APS has been a beta test site for AB. The latest version now works fine with
epics. I have had to make a couple of changes with the 3.12.1 version of the
abDrv supplied with EPICS. This will be available with 3.12.2 or if someone
has an immediate need they can contact me.
I see two incompatible changes for users of the existing 6008-SV scanner
1) The "blue hose" connector has the blue and silver wires switched. The
new configuration follows the convertion for all other AB modules.
2) You MUST either use autoconfigurration or else must define the configuration
of the racks attached to the scanner. What I have added to the 3.12.1 abDrv
is a new routine that allows the configration to be specified at boot time.
NOTE: By doing this your performace is better, i.e. more block transfers
per second.
Allen Bradley is planning the 6008-SV1R and 6008-SV2R as the replacement
for the old 6008-SV. From what I see it will be a better product. It has
additional capabilities. It also does not exibit the cmd timeout problem
the old SV had.
I am not sure when AB is ready to sell non-prototype boards but I believe it is
soon.
