I don't want to comment on Janet's specific proposals or to imply that they 
shouldn't be done, but I think as a consortium we should make our minds up what 
the policy is going to be about release dates, and then stick to this policy.  I 
realise that there is still work to be done in getting a tree which everyone is 
happy with and which will build to everyone's installation requirements, but I 
don't like the fact that we are currently STILL in a Beta release.  Maybe I 
missed this discussion as I wasn't at the latest consortium meeting, but shortly 
afterwards Bob said in a private email dated 9th of May:

I see no real reason why 3.12 can't be released now, and the modifications 
people are working on become part of 3.12.1 (or whatever).  We're having to take 
decisions on what version of EPICS to use for new projects, and although _I_ 
know that the latest Beta is pretty bug-free and stable it doesn't look like 
that from the outside -- it's much easier to convince others that we should use 
the latest version if it isn't labelled "Beta".

If you don't like this idea, could someone tell me when 3.12 _will_ be released?
