FDDI seemed to be the big thing at one time, but never took off as much as
predicted (?). ATM seems to be the next big thing. Fast Ethernet and
switched Ethernet seem to be stop gaps to a certain extent.
Do people anticipate that ATM (or other technologies) will become
attractive for this sort of thing and, if so, on what timescales ?
