The following changes seem safe (I agree with John that aliasing, etc. 
is too dangerous). I also agree that someting should be done because
this request has been expressed previously.


For all the choice types (DBF_ENUM, DBF_GBLCHOICE, DBF_CVTCHOICE,
DBF_RECCHOICE, DBF_RECCHOICE) do the following for DBR_STRING.

1) Compare the string with each string choice just like existing code.
   If success then this is just like existing code.

2) If 1) fails then do the following:
   perform an sscanf on the string to convert to unsigned int.
   If the following are true then change the field:
       a) The number of characters consumed = strlen(input string)
       b) The index value is < number of choices for the field.
   If either a or b is false then fail just like existing code.
