In the course of building EPICS for the PHENIX project I have come
across the build dependencies for the tools MEDM and GDCT. MEDM
requires XRT graphs , which is a widget set from KL group, while
GDCT requires QuestWindows. I suggest that tools which are intended
to be an intrisic part of EPICS, which the display editor and dct build
tools are, not be dependent onthird party software. Such dependency
decreased the portability of EPICS by being dependent on the portability
of the third party software itself. The dependency of the EPICS tools
has also caused some delays in building EPICS here as we had to purchase
these third pary products. (What is Quest windows anyway?)
