I've been using the Xy240 with r3.11.  The .ascii file lines were not commented 
out as cjm described but there was a bug in the file drvXy240.c that makes it so
that when you use particular bits (ie, bo records), the rest of the word will get
scrambled.  This file has been unchanged since at least 3.7.  I modified
xy_bo_driver() lines 346 and 347 to be:

        dio[card].dptr->port4_5 = (unsigned short)(work >> 16);
        dio[card].dptr->port6_7 = (unsigned short)work;

The lsw/msw positions of port4_5 and port6_7 were reversed with respect to the
rest of the driver.

I gather there is a move afoot to have fewer device drivers active in the release,
and this probably accounts for the ascii lines being commented out.
