Hi Ralph,

Can you take a look and see if these might be caused by the test code
assuming that other threads will always get a chance to run within a
specific time, rather than waiting for them to signal that they have
completed their task.

Tests shouldn't fail on OSs that display different thread scheduling
characteristics when the CPU is overloaded. We have too many tests that
fail in that case already...
