I get the same errors when trying to run the test programs in
pva2pva/testApp.

Interesting, that doesn't fix the problem for me (probably with a
different MacOS version though, not sure exactly which). What does fix
it for me is to edit modules/pva2pva/testApp/Makefile and change

> TESTLIBRARY += testutils

into

> LIBRARY += testutils

but in theory that shouldn't be necessary. The first version tells
GNUmake to build the library but not install it. The second version
installs the library.

Ahh, this was the RULES_TARGET issue that I found last week and fixed in
3.15 and 3.16 but haven't merged up into 7.0 yet.
