For a pre-release, sure.

I don't download the tars very often myself.  When I do (eg. for debian
packages), then I do check the signature.

One of the bugs with the first script version is that include file had
both files and directories in it.  So when the final tar was created,
many duplicates where encountered.  I think what we're seeing is
differences in how tar handles this situation during creation.

GNU tar 1.29 ignores the duplicates, but the version which Andrew used
apparently recorded the duplicates as hard links with the same name.
Again, GNU tar ignores these duplicates when extracting, but apparently
BSD tar errors out.
