Yes, I see the same on my Mac.

If you look at output, you will see that this is actually the second time it tries to extract .gitattributes . . .

$ grep -n gitattribute mactar.out 
3:x ./base-7.0.1-pre1/.gitattributes
2648:x ./base-7.0.1-pre1/.gitattributes: Can’t
 create 'base-7.0.1-pre1/.gitattributes'

In the tar file, we see . . .

$ tar ztvf base-7.0.1-pre1.tar.gz | grep gitattributes
-rw-rw-r--  0 anj    aesctl    111 Nov 16 12:55 ./base-7.0.1-pre1/.gitattributes
hrw-rw-r—  0 anj    aesctl      0 Nov 16 12:55 ./base-7.0.1-pre1/.gitattributes link to ./base-7.0.1-pre1/.gitattributes

Apparently, the bsd tar on the mac doesn’t like that link (or the others in the tarfile).
