Subject: Travis Builds of Base

Can someone explain why the Travis builds of Base are failing in
seemingly random ways? For example looking at job 165.1:

https://travis-ci.org/epics-base/epics-base/jobs/300372142

It seems that the msi executable was not installed. I can see where the
msi.d and msi.o files were created from msi.c, and where it linked the
msi executable, but why did GNUmake never install the executable? As a
result of that the build of test/std that call msi failed, so the whole
job failed. This seems to have been the case for all the builds of the
database module, but main build of core/master was quite happy (with the
exception of a single failing epicsErrlogTest).

Actually I'm having a problem finding a lot of installation steps in the
Travis logs, the word "Installing" should appear way more than the 25
times that I'm seeing (and those are all Perl scripts or modules).

Here are 2 consecutively numbered lines from the output of the
travis-prepare section that should be separated by an install of the
libCom.so:

> mkdir ../../../../lib/linux-x86_64
> ln -s libCom.so.3.17.0 ../../../../lib/linux-x86_64/libCom.so

On my workstation the output equivalent looks like this:

> mkdir ../../../../lib/linux-x86_64
> Installing shared library ../../../../lib/linux-x86_64/libCom.so.3.17.0
> ln -s libCom.so.3.17.0 ../../../../lib/linux-x86_64/libCom.so
> Installing library ../../../../lib/linux-x86_64/libCom.a

What's going on?

There was another error earlier that I don't think could have come from
our build system unless something made changes to our files.

Travis is rapidly going downhill in my estimation.
