   Thank you very much for your kind suggestions and helpful information!

   I will read the existing EPICS documents and follow Leo's suggestion - starting with
adding records dynamically. I will do some test to investigate feasibility/difficulties
to do that. Hope I can tell something after some time.

   The discussions are really helpful. The idea of restarting IOC with and adjusted database
file could be an good alternative for the uTCA application :)

I agree.  I really think the idea of restarting the IOC with an adjusted 
database file would be *much* simpler to implement.

Maybe it would even be worth looking at running one IOC per removable device, 
then you just shut down the relevant IOC before taking it out.  I don't think 
a uTCA crate can contain more than a handful of cards, so one IOC per card 
should fit quite easily.
