I would vote for 3.14.12 for this, unless anyone can say what it will
break. The only thing I can see is that possibly people may have
existing clients that have zero length subscriptions. The solution might
be to have another magic number (i.e. not 0, but most likely ~0,
probably expressed as a C macro) to indicate a variable length
subscription.
