Git provides most of the important features and is thus a natural candidate. 
However, the EPICS base and most of the tools are relatively small projects 
(compared to e.g. the Linux kernel) which means that one of the major 
selling points of Git (being efficient even with huge repositories) is not 
too relevant. One disadvantage is that it is poorly su[pported on Windows 
(usability and efficiency-wise). I am not sure how critical this point is.
