Hi Matthias, looks like a good idea to present a paper on proposed advances
for EPICS. I didn't see your original email but I gather that's what it was
referring to?
Sure, it's ok to mention our move toward Eclipse. Please bare in mind that
we're not choosing in any sense XAL over Eclipse. They really are not
opposites or mutually exclusive choices. We intend rather to use a
combination of XAL and the Eclipse RCP for new development, and each project
will choose which foundational tools to use (that is, all XAL including any
Swing GUI, XAL application code but not Swing GUI - in which case using an
SWT/Jface GUI, XAL modelled parameters but an SWT/Jface GUI, or all new
RCP/SWT/Jface code). We're pretty sure this is not a difficult situation and
allows us to simply choose the most pragmatic path for every problem that
arises. This will be facilitated by separating the text and graphical views
from the dialog windows, and using the fact that therefore there is no
requirement to dock windows into the main window.
Thanks for all your comments and advice on this Matthias.
