Get a single value from the record either synchronoursly or asynchronously with one of a set of metadata (properties)

Does this become:

Get_data
	Send		Channel ID
	Return	value, timestamp, severity

Get_meta_data
	Send		Channel ID, property set
				property set can be
					alarm information
					display information
					control information
					any others?
	Return	property values

Return -
	get data from record - program waits
	get data from record - call callback
	get data from group of records - call callback when all have returned
