APS Magnetic Device Magnetic Measurement Lab Control Systems Support (MD-Ctl Support) Our MissionWe provide 24x7 support to the APS Insertion Device (ID) Magnetic Measurement Lab Control Systems. We make sure to meet and exceed the expectations of our clients: scientists and their associates in using the Magnetic Measurement Lab Control Systems. Current Lab Systems Magnetic Field Spatial Profile Hall Probe Measurement System Hall Probe and Moving Coil ID Field Measurement System are designed to measure the magnetic field and field integral distributions of IDs. APS has two Hall Probe and Moving Coil ID Field Measurement Systems. Each consists of a granite table (7 meters long for the 6-meter bench and 4 meters long for the 3-meter bench), a 3-axis motorized stage (X-linear, Y-linear, and W-rotary), a calibrated Hall probe sensor, and a moving coil sensor. The sensors are mounted on the stage. The stage is hosted on the granite table with an air bearing that guides it moving along the Z direction. The control and data acquisition system is a PXI based computer system. With the latest state-of-the-art Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology, the system is capable of synchronized measurements of X (1 micron in resolution), Y (0.5 micron in resolution), and Z (1 micron in resolution) positions, time (25 ns), voltage (6-1/2 digits resolution), and temperature (0.1 oC accuracy) with the following options:
Computer control software has been developed to coordinate and automate the control, data acquisition, and real-time data analysis effort. Click here to download the software and documentation. Magnetic Field Integral Measurement System Stretched coil system can be used to measure the vertical and horizontal components of the ID magnetic field integrals along the ID longitudinal direction. The APS ID Field Integral Measurement System consists of a set of stretched coil supported by two automated 4-dimentional stages W, X, Y, and Z. The control and data acquisition system is a PXI based computer system. A computer control software has been developed to coordinate and automate the control, data acquisition, and real-time data analysis effort. With the latest Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology, the system's Standard Deviation is better then 0.12 Gauss*cm in earth magnetic field integral measurement, that is over ten (10) time better then the current similar start-of-the-art systems available in the world. It is truly the world's best stretched coil magnetic field integral measurement system. Click here to download the software and documentation. Hall Probe Calibration System The Hall Probes used to characterize the Insertion Devices need to be calibrated. The APS Magnetic Measurement Lab Hall Probe Calibration System consists of a Precision Magnet Power Supply System that generates even magnetic fields, a Hall Probe based Digital Teslameter system that provides reference field and temperature read outs, an Nuclear Magnetic Resonant (NMR) Teslameter that measures the absolute field strength, a Motorized NMR Probe Supporting Stage that positions the right NMR Probe in the right position, and a Precision Digital Multimeter that measures the Hall voltage of the Hall Probe under calibration. A computer control software has been developed to coordinate and automate the calibration effort. Click here to download the software and documentation.
