X-Ray Optics Metrology Laboratory

Environment

The laboratory is housed in a class 10,000 cleanroom located on the the APS experiment hall floor, near sector 1. All metrology instruments are mounted on optical tables to minimize the effect of vibration.

To ensure repeatability and accuracy of the measurements, the room temperature is controlled to better than +/- 0.5 deg. C and is monitored regularly. The long trace profiler (LTP) is located in a special class 100 clean vinyl enclosure, in which a dedicated AC unit controls local temperature to within +/-0.1 deg. C.

Cleanroom garments and shoe covers are worn when handling and measuring optics and access to the laboratory is restricted when measurements are performed.
