Q. How do I contact the detector pool?
A. It is best to page the on-duty pager for routine matters. For
technical information not listed on this site, email one of us.
But we are posting as many manuals as we have.
Q.How do I connect a detector pool computer to the network?
A.Work with computer support, who then also work with us. It is best
to do this in advance, so as not to waste experiment time. See this
site, folder Inventory, for a spreadsheet list of MAC ethernet addresses
for DHCP servers.
Q.Why can I not request a detector? The system gives me an error message.
A.Your name is probably not in the list of allowed users. Contact Steve.
Q. How can I tell if a detector is available?
A. Currently the only way to do this is to request it, and see if the
request shows available equipment. The problem here is that if you overlap
another reservation, even by a day, then it will seem like the detector
is unavailable. Ideally we'd show you a calendar.
Q. How can I get help on weekends, and off hours?
A. We can get help from the floor coordinators.
Q. How does the detector pool select new detectors to buy each year?
A. We go by beamline scientist requests, our own research into new
detectors, and by looking at which detectors are often over subscribed.
Q. When are reservations taken for a run?
A. Usually a few weeks before the run, during a shutdown, we send out an announcement.
If you are not getting these, then email, and get on the mailing list.
Q. Can we borrow software for a detector?
A. Some detectors came with CD-ROMs. We install this on our own
computers. We will eventually be posting CD images. Do not tweak software
on our computers without our permission.
