Research Interests

Research Interests

My main scientific focus lies in the characterisation of the structure of matter and its response to extremes of pressure and temperature. I am particularly interested in disordered condensed matter systems: orientationally disordered crystals, glasses and the liquid state. Amongst other materials, I have conducted research into the high-pressure phases of ice (both crystalline and amorphous); the archetypal network forming glasses: silica and germania; and clathrate hydrate systems including methane and ammonia hydrate. My primary research tool is diffraction, employing both synchroton x-ray and neutron sources.
