Beamline Associate at the High Pressure Collaborative Access Team (HPCAT) at the Advanced Photon Source
The High Pressure Collaborative Access Team (HPCAT) invites applications for one beamline associate position at the Advanced Photon Source (APS), Argonne National Laboratory, USA. The HPCAT operates sector 16 at the APS, which has been developed with multiple synchrotron x-ray diffraction and spectroscopy probes dedicated for high pressure research.
Responsibilities of the beamline associate include performing and maintaining daily and scheduled HPCAT beamline operation, maintaining and operating HPCAT laboratory and other supporting equipments, keeping necessary tools and supplies in work order, and participating in research teams in developing and integrating component models and controls at HPCAT.
Applicants must have a M.S. degree, or a university degree with at least three years of synchrotron related work experience. The successful candidate is expected to have good knowledge of engineering concepts and procedures, and good skills in working in a research team environment. Excellent relevant computer and network control skills are desirable. Candidates must have good verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work effectively both as a team player and independently.

Postdoctoral Associate at the High Pressure Synergetic Consortium (HPSynC) at the Advanced Photon Source
The High Pressure Synergetic Consortium (HPSynC) of the Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington invites applications for a postdoctoral-associate position stationed at the Advanced Photon Source (APS), Argonne National Laboratory, USA. The HPSynC mission is to develop novel, high-risk, high-impact, high-pressure science and technology using synchrotron radiation. Responsibilities of HPSynC postdoctoral associate include, but are not limited to developing high pressure synchrotron scientific projects, integrating novel high pressure and synchrotron techniques, working with APS beamlines staff to design, test, and implement new instrumentations, managing support laboratories, assisting users, and conducting original research.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, earth science, biophysics, engineering, or a related field. Expertise in high-pressure apparatus, crystallography, nanotechnology, x-ray diffraction, x-ray spectroscopy, x-ray imaging, x-ray optics, instrument design, electronics, and/or software development for data acquisition and analysis is desirable.
