Partner User Proposal Abstract
Ultrafast X-ray Science: a Partner User Proposal for establishing a user-base for time-resolved science at MHATT-CAT, Sector 7 (update of PUP-20) (PUP-47)
In 2004, we formed a three year partnership between the Advanced Photon Source (APS), MHATT-CAT and the FOCUS Physics Frontier Center for the avancement of Ultrafast X-ray Science at Argonne National Laboratory (PUP-20 ). The goal of this partnership has been and continues to be to build an ultrafast user-base for time-resolved x-ray science through education, active recruitment and strong collaboration with the ultrafat optics community. This program was used to allocate ~20% of te beamtime on 7-ID for beamline staff training, technique development, and to give access to high risk, high impact experiments. It is expected that scientists brought in through collaboration under this Partner User Proposal will make the transition to the General User Program within a few visits. This model is indeed beginning to work, and in fact, one of these collaborations has already led to the formation of an independent PUP. MHATT-CAT and the University of Michigan is strongly dedicated to promoting ultrafast science at synchrotrons. The purpose of this document is to provide an update on the progress of our partnership as it completes its first year and to renew our commitment to this partnership with a request for continuation of this PUP through October 2007.
