1:00 - 4:30
WK4 - Kinetics and Dynamics in Soft Condensed Matter
Organizer:
Alec Sandy, Advanced Photon Source
To agenda > (updated April 4, 2007)
Overview
Soft condensed matter is of interest both technologically and scientifically. For example, on the technological side, the unique mesoscopic properties of soft matter find application in the food, personal-care, paint and pharmaceutical product industries. On the scientific side, soft matter is of interest, among many other reasons, because of its hierarchical scales of assembly and dynamics. The theme of this workshop, therefore, is twofold. The first part will address kinetics in such types of materials while the second part will examine the complex dynamics associated with these systems. Among the topics we expect to cover are the following: self-assembly of nanostructures, applications of di-block copolymer based devices, dynamics in colloidal suspensions, dynamics in nanocomposites and the glass transition in polymeric thin films and the bulk.
