February 22nd Deadline for Nominations for the 2010 APSUO Rosalind Franklin Award

Nominations are already being received for the 2010 APS Users Organization's Rosalind Franklin Young Investigator Award, which will be presented on Tuesday, May 4, during the 2010 Users Meeting. The deadline for nominations is February 22, 2010; the winner will be notified no later than March 26, 2010, and will be asked to present a talk at the meeting. This award consists of a plaque and $1000. Further information about the award and requirements for nomination can be found at

APS Proposal Deadline is March 5, 2010, for the 2010-2 Run Cycle

The deadline is Friday, March 5, 2010, for new general user proposals and beam time requests on existing active proposals for APS run 2010-2 (June 2 -August 25, 2010). Partner user proposals (PUPs), CAT Member, APS Beamline Staff, and CAT Beamline staff proposals are also due on that day.

The General Proposal (GUP) system will accept proposals until 11:59 pm (Chicago time) on March 5, but User Office support will not be available after 5:00 pm. If you feel you may need help during the submission process, please create your proposal as early as possible.

APSUO Steering Committee Seeking Potential Nominees

The APSUO Steering Committee is looking for potential nominees for this year's Steering Committee election. The Steering Committee meets four times per year. The APSUO advises the APS Associate Laboratory Director and acts as an advocacy group for the APS user community, provides advice to the ALD on matters affecting the user community, and assures good communication between the APS user community and the APS management.

Individuals interested in pursuing possible nomination should contact Nominating Committee Chair Alfonso Mondragon (a-mondragon@northwestern.edu) and Linda Carlson (carlson@aps.anl.gov, APS User Office).
