1. Call for Nominations: Ninth APS Compton Award
The Compton Award, established by the APS Users Organization, is presented in alternate years at the spring APS Users Meeting. Nominations for this year's awardee(s) are now being sought. The award consists of a plaque and $2500 and the award recipient is expected to present a plenary lecture.
Nominations should include the following:
- a brief (one page or less) nominating letter including a description of the work for which the award is proposed,
- a statement describing the significance and impact of the work,
- a short proposed citation for the award plaque, and
- the names of two individuals who will provide supporting letters under separate cover. (The nominator is responsible for requesting the supporting letters.)
2. New! Survey about Tutorials during Users Week
Organizers for this year's Users Week need your opinions about the possibility of offering a variety of tutorials in conjunction with the more traditional meeting events and activities.
Tutorials would be offered on Sunday afternoon, May 3 immediately preceding the reception. Several possible tutorial topics are being proposed, and we are asking you to complete a very brief on-line survey to determine your level of interest and what topics are of most interest to you. The proposed topics are
- Machine Physics
- X-ray Optics
- EPICS Controls
- Small-angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS)
- X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS)
- Atomic Pair Distribution Function (PDF)
