| The white beam absorber blocks white beam radiation while allowing monochromatic radiation to pass.
The white beam absorber assembly is comprised
of a water-cooled block of tungsten alloy with separate white beam
and monochromatic beam apertures and a successive monochromatic beam
collimator and bremsstrahlungs shield. White beam enters the lower
aperture and is distributed and absorbed over its bottom side, inclined
by 2 degrees with respect to the horizontal. Scattered white beam
radiation exiting through the narrow downstream end is absorbed in
the bremsstrahlungs shield. Monochromatic beam, offset vertically
from the white beam by 25.4 mm can pass freely through the monochromatic
beam aperture and the collimator pipe.
