Welcome to Sector 1 of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) located at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). The Sector 1 beamlines are operated by the Materials Physics & Engineering Group (MPE) of the APS X-ray Science Division (XSD).
Sector 1 consists of the 1-ID and 1-BM beamlines, and 80% of the available beamtime is accessible to outside users through the General User program. The main programs pursued at these two beamlines are described below.
1-ID is dedicated to providing and using brilliant, high-energy x-ray beams (50-150 keV) for the following activities:
- Coupled high-energy small- and wide-angle scattering (HE-SAXS/WAXS)
- High-energy diffraction microscopy (HEDM)
- Stress/strain/texture studies
- Pair-distribution function (PDF) measurements
- High-energy fluorescence
1-BM is a multi-purpose powder diffraction beamline delivering x-rays at ~20keV. Standard experimental modes include variable temperature, controlled-atmosphere, high pressure, and time-resolved.
