Single Crystal Diffraction

Beamline
All single crystal diffraction studies are perforned on the hard x-ray 4-ID-D beamline.

What types of diffraction experiments are done on sector 4?
Single crystal diffraction studies encompass a wide range of scientific problems. In sector 4, we focus primarily on experiments that involve either the resonant or magnetic cross sections or diffraction studies which involve the application of a magnetic field. Primarily we focus on experiments in the follwoing areas:
  • Resonant Scattering
  • Magnetic Scatering
  • Polarized µ-diffraction
  • In-Field Scattering
  • Diffraction studies of correlated electron systems.

Beamline 4-ID-D can access energies from 2.5 keV upto 50 keV, making a wide range of 3d, 4d, 4f, and 5d metal resonances accessable. .............

Several cryostats are available for diffractions studies.

  • APD He refrigerator (4.2 to 325 K)
  • APD High temperature displex (10K to 800K)
  • He flow cryostat (4 to 325 K)

All the cryostats are mounted on a motorized carrier.

In-Field diffraction studies can be done using several different magnets on .
