Frequently Asked Questions

The following questions come up often when using the Sector 1 beamlines. If you have a question (and maybe answer) that would be of general interest to Sector 1 users, please give it to Dean or Jon for inclusion in this list.

Q: No matter what buttons I push on the MEDM screen, the preamp does not seem to respond. The Overload Input and Output status lights (right hand side of the front panel) glow red. What's wrong?

A: The Overload light symptom usually indicates that an internally mounted IC needs to be replaced. Take this unit out of service, label it with a description of the problem, and give it to Ali. Make an entry in the beamline trouble log.

Q: Where can I find information about problems with the beamline and how do I report problems?

A: Two notebooks are kept at the 1-ID work area. They are labeled "1-ID Notebook" and "Kohzu DCM Notebook". All problems related to beamline operations should be noted in the 1-ID notebook and, if the problem involves the Kohzu DCM, referenced to to the Kohzu notebook. Serious problems should also be reported to Ali or Dean immediately.

Q: Is there a public APS site to which external users can put data?

A: Yes, they can ftp to epics.aps.anl.gov as anonymous and place the files in the incoming directory.
