APS TECHNICAL UPDATE - No. 20

Subject: Requirements for front-end differential pump installation

The requirements for replacing a front-end commissioning window on an insertion device beamline, with a differential pump are:

  1. The beamline shall meet the requirements of the APS vacuum policy. The CAT will need to confirm that the insertion device beamline complies with the policy and that there will be no in-vacuum coolant (except liquid nitrogen) joints within the vacuum envelope.
  2. The CAT shall supply a gate valve to isolate the differential pump from the beamline.
  3. The CAT shall supply an RGA for the APS to monitor the beamline vacuum. The RGA is to be installed downstream of the CAT-provided valve in order that the quality of the beamline vacuum can be measured prior to opening the valve. Contact the Vacuum Technology Group for the appropriate RGA ordering information.

In order for ASD Vacuum Technology Group to plan for the replacement, the CAT should provide, at least 3 months in advance, a schedule of when the replacement can take place. Please contact User Technical Interface to request a change in front-end configuration.
