Experiment Hazard Class 12 – Electrical and Electronic Equipment
Applicability
This hazard classification applies to all experiments involving electrical and electronic equipment. Other hazard classifications and their associated hazard controls may also apply to experiments in this hazard class. The inspection of electric equipment is covered under the APS Policy For User Electric Equipment Inspections.
Experiment Category
All Hazard Class 12 experiments are categorized as medium risk experiments and require inspection and review by APS Designated Electrical Equipment Inspectors. Please read the details of these inspections.
Experiment Hazard Control Verification Statements
Engineered Controls – Determined by review.
Procedural Controls – Determined by review
Design Reviews and Equipment Inspections – Review and mandatory inspection of equipment by ANL Designated Electrical Equipment Inspectors.
Training – Follow the guidance provided in the APS User Safety Update (February 16, 2005) and APS User Safety Update (April 12, 2006)
Signs and Labeling – Determined by review.
Personal Protective Equipment – Determined by review.
Experiment Authorization
Unless otherwise
noted in the approved experiment safety plan, the Director of the APS Engineering Support
Division delegates the authority to authorize an experiment in this hazard
class to a member of the AES Experiment Safety Review Board and resident beamline
personnel appearing in the Director of the AES' list of personnel having
the authority to authorize experiments.
Hazard Control Verification
The Director of the APS Engineering Support Division delegates responsibility for verifying that required controls are in place to the experiment On-site Spokesperson, Beamline Management personnel having experiment safety responsibilities, and ANL Designated Electrical Equipment Inspectors.
