CAT Chat Minutes

December 10, 2007

Operations Update, Mark Beno

There was no beam loss on the accelerator for the week, but there was a report of the beamline going down at 21-ID. There were also three incidents of the beam going down below 100 mA for over ½ hour. We were at 99.07% of scheduled beamtime and 98.4 hours of meantime between faults.

Safety, Paul Rossi

There is currently a new SWA inspection checklist being developed. The new system will be in place in January that can be used if you wish.

The December inspections include 431Z, Sectors 5, 6, and 10.

Comments/Questions, Mark Beno

The DOE Review is on going, and there may be tours tomorrow.

Susan Strasser brought up the fact that the Argonne Directorate will be meeting tomorrow to discuss the possibility of making Argonne a non-smoking facility effective on January 1, 2008. The CAT Chat attendees were asked to discuss this with their users and staff to see what the impact this would have on our facility. It was felt that the users organization should have a say in this matter. Any comments or concerns should be brought to Strasser's attention so that she can report this to the appropriate individuals.

Next Meeting:

The next CAT Chat Meeting will be held on Monday, December 17, 2007, at 3:00 pm.
